The Eternal God is My Helper!

Inspired by a quote by Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)

"I myself will help you," declares the Lord. Oh my soul, is not this enough? Dost thou need more strength than the omnipotence of the United Trinity? Does thou want more wisdom than exists in the Father, more love than displays itself in the Son, or more power than is manifest in the influences of the Spirit? Bring hither thine empty pitcher! Sure this well will fill it. Haste, gather up thy wants, and bring them here--thine emptiness, thy woes, thy needs. Behold, this river of God is full for thy supply; what canst thou desire beside? Go forth, my soul, in this thy might. The Eternal God is thine helper!

The Gift of an Ordinary Day

Treating myself to a book this week: The Gift of an Ordinary Day by Katrina Kenison. The following video was shared on Facebook by my sister-in-law. Be sure to watch (and listen) to the entire video. It is well worth it! Oh, to be able to capture those precious 'ordinary' moments for instant playback!

(Oh, and don't forget to have some tissues handy!!)

Silver Seasons - Michael Michaud's Botanical Jewelry

Stumbled upon a collection by the amazingly talented Michael Michaud. His botanical jewelry is breathtaking. I am coveting the eucalyptus earrings and cuff bracelet, as well as all the ocean-themed pieces, for obvious reasons :-D
All are crafted in bronze but some are also made in silver and gold. As I scrolled through the extensive collection I hoped he would have some tropical flowers, such as hibiscus, orchids and plumerias. He lives and works in Fairfield, Connecticut, so I guess tropical flowers probably aren't very easy to come by :-D
According to the bio at Sattva Gallery, the technique he uses is called lost wax casting, which requires that he create a mold (or multiple molds) for each piece.
Lost wax casting is a method I hope to learn someday. Right now I lack the patience to work on anything that requires that I wait for any length of time. For now I am content to marvel at the exquisite craftsmanship by other artisans. I am trying not to wear anything I haven't made myself but I may just splurge on a Michael Michaud pendant to hang from one of my own pearl chokers.

Mothers Day 2010

It was a quiet Mothers Day this year with DH away on business until late Sunday evening and a sick little one. I kept vigil over my littlest one (6yo) until her fever broke at about 4am on Sunday morning. A friend and I had planned a Mothers Day workout followed by breakfast but I stayed in bed with my baby girl until past eleven. Managed to make it to our Mothers Day service in the afternoon but left my little one at home to rest. She was so sad to miss Sunday school and made a lovely card for Miss Kelly apologizing for her absence. The children and teachers were so thoughtful to make her a Get Well card. She still had a very slight fever when I got home but I thought a short walk for some fresh air might do her some good. With the older children still at church it was a nice time by ourselves. A quiet Mothers Day but a blessed one.
